The Great Train Race

FASL is the proud beneficiary of The Great Train Race, the largest race of its kind on the East Coast  for the past eight years. Each year, FASL partners with the Fredericksburg Area Running Club (FARC) to coordinate packet pick-up and facilitate operations and procedures for the starting line on race day. FARC  has donated over $80,000 to date to FASL. Registration starts on Mar 1 2014. Visit http://gtrfredericksburg.com/

For the past eight years, FASL has been collecting, inscribing and distributing books to underprivileged children. FASL coordinates with local elementary schools to provide read-alouds. We distribute over 2,000 books annually to children who need them. Each book is hand signed by a FASL member with the following inscription:

"The more you read,
The more things you will know,
The more that you learn,
The more places you'll go!'"
- Dr. Seuss

The league wishes for all children to have access to books, in order to nourish the imagination through reading. We are expanding this program  with the FASL Book Bank at the new satellite of the Children's Museum of Richmond, Fredericksburg.

Summer Scholars is a program, which focuses on middle school students in the Fredericksburg area. FASL will award four full scholarships to an art and sciences, or technology camp at George Mason University, Virginia Tech or William and Mary. The students will be selected in the early spring, based on academic performance, interest and financial need.

FASL awards five $1,000 scholarships to college-bound seniors attending public high schools from Fredericksburg City, Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George and Caroline Counties. These scholarships are awarded based on teens commitment to serve children within the community.
