FASL adopts a family at Thanksgiving and Christmas and provides them with essential products such as food and clothes as well as toys at Christmas.
For the past eight years, FASL has been collecting, inscribing and distributing books to underprivileged children. FASL coordinates with local elementary schools to provide read-alouds. We distribute over 2,000 books annually to children who need them. Each book is hand signed by a FASL member with the following inscription:
Summer Scholars is a program, which focuses on middle school students in the Fredericksburg area. FASL will award four full scholarships to an art and sciences, or technology camp at George Mason University, Virginia Tech or William and Mary. The students will be selected in the early spring, based on academic performance, interest and financial need.
FASL awards five $1,000 scholarships to college-bound seniors attending public high schools from Fredericksburg City, Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George and Caroline Counties. These scholarships are awarded based on teens commitment to serve children within the community.
The Fredericksburg Area Service League is an ongoing supporter of the Children's Museum of Richmond Fredricksburg. Look out for the FASL Book Bank in the museum!
FASL is the proud beneficiary of The Great Train Race, the largest race of its kind on the East Coast for the past eight years. Each year, FASL partners with the Fredericksburg Area Running Club (FARC) to coordinate packet pick-up and facilitate operations and procedures for the starting line on race day. The league wishes for all children to have access to books, in order to nourish the imagination through reading. We are expanding this program with the FASL Book Bank at the new satellite of the Children's Museum of Richmond, Fredericksburg.
The Diaper Bag is a Fredericksburg Area Service League Signature Program that provides diapers and diaper wipes to families experiencing diaper need in the Fredericksburg area. Diaper need is defined as the lack of a clean diaper supply.
